hey folks, first post here.

im going to be in the business of make-up in the coming year, and i'd like to get a headstart on some practice. if your interested in being so kind as to let me practice and refine my make-up technique, and are in the atlanta/peachtree city area, please send a post, note, email, carrier pigeon, etc my way!

i've been in the costume making hobby for about 3 years, though i have yet to jump into the steampunk world. im very excited to experiment in some looks that will lend themselves well to steampunk costumes, so if you have a photoshoot, or upcoming event, i would like to be a part of it. :)

at this time i dont have any decent photos of my costume make-up ive done in the past, and im sorry for that. but you can help change that! contact me if you'd like to set something up. thanks!

Can anyone recommend businesses in the east/south-east area for table party hire? I'm holding an event in Mentone in June but want to get prices sorted now.

I've googled and found Hine Hire, Princess Party Hire and Celebrate Party Hire in the area, but would like to have a few more options up my sleeve.

Go get it.

Or swear about it.

Or don't.

Or whatever...

*EDIT* OH BTW. ITS ONLY FOR TRAINS NOW. If you're a Tram/bus user, you stick with your reliable paper metcard sonny. *EDIT*

MYKI VALID FOR TRAVEL ON MELBOURNE TRAINS FROM TODAY

From the Minister for Public Transport

Tuesday, 29 December 2009

Victoria’s new public transport ticketing system, myki, is now valid for travel on the metropolitan Melbourne train network, Public Transport Minister Lynne Kosky announced today.

From later today, Melburnians will have the chance to be among the first to get a myki by registering online for a free reusable smartcard.

“This is an important first step in a carefully planned rollout of myki in Melbourne,” Ms Kosky said.

“The system has undergone rigorous testing for the past two months across Melbourne’s public transport network.

“I have received advice from the Transport Ticketing Authority board that test data shows that myki is consistently reliable across Melbourne’s train network and they have therefore recommended the commencement of myki on the metropolitan rail network.

“From today, myki money or myki pass will be valid for travel on all train services operated by Metro, and all V/Line services in Zones 1+2, including Melton and Sunbury

“From 3pm today, people can go online at myki.com.au, open an account and register for a free myki.

“They can begin using their myki on the metropolitan train network as soon as they receive it and top up with money, a travel pass or both.

“Today Melburnians who catch the train will have the choice to use a myki or remain with Metcard until the roll out is complete.

“I have not yet received advice that all features of the tram and bus fleet have the required level of consistent reliability – so we will keep the public informed as to exactly when myki is ready to use on these parts of the network.”

Ms Kosky said it would take about six months or more to fully introduce myki in Victoria, with the Metcard system continuing to operate during this period.

“I’m confident that, once people are familiar with myki, they are going to love the ease and convenience it brings to ticketing,” she said.

“In fact, many people will automatically save money when they top up, touch on and touch off, as myki calculates the best daily fare for each user.

“With the myki and Metcard systems running together during the transition period, we can expect some operational challenges, and people deserve some time to get used to the change.

“We’ll be listening closely to myki users about their experience, and the operator is on notice to be ready to respond if issues arise.”

In keeping with the gradual rollout of myki annual pass holders will be advised by mail when they can make the switch to myki.

The myki system has been developed by Kamco under a public tender and contract agreement.

Project funding of up to $1.35 billion includes system design and delivery payments, future costs of operating the myki system for the next 10 years, and funding to maintain the Metcard system equipment through a staged roll out in 2010.

A public information campaign will begin shortly as the staged roll out of myki continues.

Further information about myki is available at www.myki.com.au

how does mod podge and colored tissue paper mix when being put onto cardboard? onto wood?

i just wonder if the colors will bleed together. i want to start making decorative boxes with homemade soaps in them as presents and i think the tissue paper would make a good base. thanks in advance.

Hi everyone! Photographer Lex Machina here. I posted a few months back about visiting the SoCal area and was lucky enough to be aimed toward the League of S.T.E.A.M. by quite a few of you fabulous ladies and gents. I really can't thank you enough.
Not only are they an incredibly talented band of costumers and performers, but they are just incredibly lovely people. My only regret is that I did not have an opportunity to work with the entire team. Hopefully, we can remedy that soon.

Until then, without further ado, the photos:

hello, first post here though i lurk quite frequently. :P
as well as being completely obsessed with steampunk fashion, i adore all kinds, especially haute couture,
and i just came across something AMAZING that i don't think has been posted here that i think you all might appreciate:

high-heels from Alexander McQueen's Spring 2010 runway collection... i pretty much died when i saw them and had to fawn over them somewhere. they are incredible.

kinda disappointed that the rest of the collection doesn't have a very Victorian feel, but the sci-fi aspect is definitely there and the fashion is still amazing if anyone is interested in more:

hope to post more finds and such. :D

I'm sorry if the answer to this is ridiculously obvious.

I have an orange shirt. I want to make this shirt tye-dyed with orange, blue and white. Is this possible? Can I, maybe, use bleach to make the white, and once it dyes, use blue tye-dye ink for the blue on some of the white? Is there an easier way to go about doing this?

I'm looking for a safe, clean piercing studio to do a nipple piercing. I'm overwhelmed with recommendations from friends about piercers and studios, but none of them have had this specific piercing done -- how much would I be looking at paying for both the piercing and the jewelery? Any personal recommendations?

Thank-you in advance,
T.

Hey everyone,

I am in Melbourne at the moment, and I was thinking that it would be nice to see some people while I am here, so I wondering if anyone is interested in catching up for a mini meet this Saturday (2nd of Jan)?

I thought we could meet at 11 under the Melbourne Central clock, and then decide what to do from there. How does that sound to you guys?

AND, an offer to other retailers....

Okay, first off, what did you scurvy bilge rats score in terms of plunder? Spill it!

Secondly, I realize I offered the League of Steam help with promotions as far as putting flyers in our Southern California parcels to promote their appearances, but I thought that I would offer that to the general steam public and do the same for any of you. Would be happy to put business cards, stickers, etc in our parcels and will try my absolute best if you want to limit it to an area or state.

I can't leave this offer open to too many because that would greatly increase packing times, but the offer is out there. Just email me through the site or my personal one, which is my first name followed by the site's url.

Okay, last thing, how are you all ringing in your New Year? I know many are going to the Edison but wonder what else is going on around the globe.

Something to brighten up my dreary little grad student (read: zero decorating budget) bedroom. The idea came from Apartment Therapy.

Cardboard "bumps" from the inside dividers of an egg crate, cut up with an X-acto knife and set onto a cheap strand of white Christmas lights.

I did these for all those hard to shop for people that I just end up getting gift cards for. They worked out really well, I just used scrapbook paper and a knitting needle instead of a paper scorer.

The pattern is from Heather Bailey.

In response to Emma< LJ user = "hjgkfdrruyf">
And here are some questions
She'd really appreciate getting feedback
on for a project She's working on:

my answers to her survey and a self introduction

♥ How long have you been crafting?
first time I got caught-? age 5? did an entire wall as hi as I could reach
dad's been getting even with me ever since
grandma taught him some finn swearwords
because he'd fallen asleep-and didn't stop me.

♥ How did you get interested in crafting?
mom was doing it you name it she learned it and so did I,
dad taught me carpentry and not to be afraid of power tools
the combination makes me fearless and a bit of trouble...

♥ How did you learn to craft? watching my folks
reading, museums, looking at antiques- How'd they do that?
just doing it when I could teaching when I can.

♥ What sort of crafting do you do?
mostly I've been doing anything i can fit on my lap.
I love fibre- weave-needlework, knit- crochet- needle felt, cloth- all kinds of quilting,
peiced/applique/scatchwork/painted, bead work of all kinds. I love seed beads best
but I've been makes stuffed beads of a sorts... dorset buttins- sewing stuff critters, clothes
and I get at least one thing done a day on rebuilding a 1860's house.
today I framed in a window. ;8^J. only 5 to go

♥ What sort of things do you make?
I've a suitcase of small painting that are quilted, another of stuffed scupltures & dolls,
the quilted beads need to be strung, a pile of needle felted mushrooms
lately i've been making sox- from the toe down-with 2 circular needles

♥ Why do you craft?
because I love making something out of nothing
I love color and sculpting 3 dimensional things.
I'm happy learning and practicing what I learned,
and teaching it to anyone when they are ready.

more from Emma
'Also, if anyone might be willing to answer further,
more in-depth questions and participate in crafting research,
can I have your e-mail address?'
